Department of Sociology and Social Research
The fruition related to the territory and the community characteristics is the main topic of the cultural heritage research in the Department.
The teaching activities offer bachelor and master degrees in Tourism science: the course of Tourism and Local Communities, and the course of Tourism, Territory and Local Development. In the bachelor course, there are two teachings about cultural heritage: Arts and Architecture, and the Museums, Exhibitions and Tourism Laboratory. The master degree offers the teaching Tourism and Cultural Heritage. Other interdisciplinary teachings are Cultural and Environmental Economy, Cultural and Environmental Heritage Geography and Cultural Politics History.
The interdisciplinarity is characterized by a productive discussion that produced three main research lines:
- the first concerns multilevel research focused on multiple aspects, summarized by the definition "Historical commemoration", centred on the "Battle of Bicocca" event;
- the second, named Religious Heritage: museum protection and touristic valorization in urban and rural areas, managed by L. Bagnoli, M. Ferretto and R. Capurro, from 2009 focus its research on the valorization of and through the cultural heritage of religious interest;
- the third, managed by F. Guerisoli, focuses on the museum sustainability during the COVID-19 crisis and studies the online impact and offer of Italian museums and foundations, in particular how these spaces can become places of knowledge, learning and appreciation.

Infine si segnala che nel 2020 è stata stipulata una collaborazione scientifica tra il Dipartimento e l'associazione culturale CheFare al fine di valorizzare, studiare e dare forza al progetto denominato LaGuida. Il progetto si focalizza su quelli che verranno denominati Nuovi Centri Culturali (NCC): spazi ibridi che producono e distribuiscono cultura in forme peculiari che li distanziano dalle istituzioni culturali tradizionali. Portano avanti pratiche culturali inedite e inclusive e si pongono, seppure con modalità diverse, la questione delle relazioni con la dimensione spaziale, con il contesto urbano e con le comunità che lo abitano.
L’obiettivo è quello, da un lato, di esplorare relazione dei NCC con lo spazio urbano e in secondo luogo, quello di comporre un quadro analitico interpretativo.
